The family who set us up with kid friendly activities and an amazing driver who is also a father and a wonderful man, is knocking it out of the park. He insisted on this 7 hour hike to Sarangkot and it did not disappoint. First, we saw the mountains, had tea with the chickens at the cutest tea house, played on a playground with the mountains in the background, and ate ice cream.
Next, we walked down the mountain back to the city. We were supposed to follow the stone steps, but we wound up on a man's property. He told us to turn around but when i asked to follow the singing, he said fine. The singing turned out to be dancing medical students. So we joined them, learned their goofy coreography, and met some super cool people. When we finally left back across the property, they yelled from across the hills "good bye!!"
The last leg of our trip perhaps I shouldn't even mention. I'll say it really quick ... we became very hot and tired, ran out of water, and almost walked into a spider bigger than my palm who built a web across the path (spiders nepalesename: maro aagadi). We were fiiiine!
This day will be hard to beat!
Notes:
1. Today I felt overwhelmingly like I could live in Pokhara. However, it dawned on me that we haven't seen any westerners here. During trekking season this place is packed and perhaps less charming.
2. While hiking, nepalese came out around every corner to ask me if all four kids were mine and to help us find our way. At one point Brennan was lost and many people helped us find him. The kindness is amazing!
3. Just a comment about the amount of clothes we brought. It seems to be perfect. We dropped off laundry yesterday morning and again today, so both pairs of my pants were washed. Each batch is about $4 and is done by the evening. I've never regretted carrying less clothing.
