Monkey attack

We explored Delhi today.  We rode the metra, explored Connaught Place, saw the Parliment buildings and government workers eating lunch, took a pic of India Gate, were attacked by a red-faced monkey, and finally went back to the Edgewater of Delhi and watched Inside Out 2 at the theater in English.

They started creating the Delhi Metro in 2002 and have not finished.  Currently, there isn't enough room on the Metro for the ever-growing population.  We rode on packed cars at 11:30 and 3:00.  Luckily the girls and I rode in the comfortable ladies car.  In the pic you can see the packed men's car not daring to step over the invisible line.

Visiting Connaught place is like shoving a sharp pencil in your eye.  There was a continuous flow of rude touts who frequently lied even when it put the kids in danger. Yuck. I berated two of them.  Something I have always appreciated about Indians is when you call them out, they slip away quickly.  Twenty years ago the Egyptian touts doubled down and followed you, especially with women. Double yuck.

In the park by India Gate we played in the grass and ate ice cream until a very aggressive red-faced monkey got up in our face baring his teeth.  Reese in her wisdom, threw her half eaten ice cream and saved us.  She did not complain once about missing out on her sugary treat.  A minimum of 15 Indians came to our rescue, explaining that without the ice cream, we will be fine, and we were. The pics in the grass are post monkey, so you can see, the kids weren't worse for the wear.

Now you know why we ended our day with a movie and chill. We are leaving for Varanassi at 6am on the fastest train in India! Most of our luggage will stay in Delhi.

Note:

1. There was a spiritual yoga master quote in the Metro station ... only in India. He was nominated for two nobels.

2. The Edgewater of Delhi where we are staying is called Block D Saket and is a nice mix of neighbors complete with a mango man walking the streets in the morning.  There are dusty street vendors just around the corner lest you forget where you are.
