Threshold
The very hardest part of travel is not the bumpy bus ride through the mountains, the goat that eats your map (and the ensuing roundabout trip back to your hostel), or the protest in the big city that you accidentally became part of. Instead, it's getting over the threshold - hopping on the plane, telling loved ones that you're leaving and listening to their reservations without giving up ground, and feeling the fear of the unknown before stepping off the plane. The threshold is the reason why millions of people put their hand back down their pants and continue fondling the remote control as they had been doing prior to the thought of travel.
